Gor Mahia’s Meddie Kagere has emerged the Sport Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) Player of the Month for September in a ceremony held at Camp Toyoyo, Jericho on Tuesday 13 October.
He makes it the third from Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia after team mates Ali Abondo and Karim Nzigiyimana won the award in March and June respectively.
The club’s second best scorer who has a total of 13 goals under his name played an important role to guide K’Ogalo against Ulinzi Stars and Sony Sugar in September’s league fixtures plus KPL Top 8 outing against Muhoroni Youth.
The Ugandan born Rwandese also ensured that K’Ogalo sailed through to the Shield Tournament’s round of 16 after grabbing a brace against Ushuru FC on Sunday 20 September.
To this effect, he beat Nairobi City Stars’ Ebrimah Sanneh and Chemelil Sugars’ Meshack Karani to bag home Kshs. 50,000, a personalized trophy and a 42 inch smart TV.
Wanyamas appears on CAF player-of-the-year shortlist
The Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama has made in the 37-man shortlist for the CAF- 2014 African Player of the Year.
This is the first time that a Kenyan is making the cut in the list that also includes four -time winner, Ivory Coast International Yaya Toure as well as Gabon forward and Borrussia Dortmund man Pierre Emerick Aubemayang.
The list is dominated by West African footballers, a majority of whom ply their trade in major European leagues.
However, there is place for Modather Al Tayeb of Sudan, who plays his soccer in his domestic league with Al- Hilal.
