Panafric FC clinched the Lugari CDF tournament cup after humiliating Chenjeni FC with a 4 – 3 win through penalty shootout after the teams battled to a barren draw in normal and extra time in the most entertaining finals played at Vuyika primary school grounds in Matete.
It was a tight encounter that could have gone either way as both teams seemed set to clinch the title with defenders and the midfielders being kept alert at all times running and disturbing strikers from both ends but nobody managing to see past the opponent’s goal post throughout 120 minutes.
It was difficult to predict which team would win the match with both sides tightening their boots and goalkeepers being called into action on several accessions with superb saves.
After failing to break the deadlock in 120 minute the teams went for spot kicks with Panafric FC outshining their opponents beating them 4 – 3 to emerge victorious in the tournament that attracted more than 100 football teams from the entire Lugari Sub County.
Sirende Fc finished third after disqualifying Mlimani FC by hammering them 2 – 1 in the earlier play offs.
In the ladys’ category, Wembe FC blocked Kivaywa FC from taking the trophy by thrashing them 3 – 2 in another tough final encounter.
In netball, Chevaywa were crowned winners with Chekalini finishing the best runners up followed by, Lwandet, Lumakanda and Mautuma.
Speaking when he handed over trophies Lugari MP Ayub Savula congratulated all teams that participated and those who helped bring the tournament to its success.
He promised that CDF will continue sponsoring such tournaments stating that they help in keeping the youths busy besides identifying their talents.
All teams that made it to the finals received a full set of uniforms and sh. 10,000. With the winners getting a trophy on top of the cash and uniforms.
