Super League winners Vihiga United FC resumed their training early this week as they await FKF and KPL to resolve promotion stalemate.
The team head coach Mr. Edward Manoah said they have decided to start pre-season programme so as to be ready for the next assignment ahead of them.
“We decided to kick start our training at Kidundu stadium as we wait for direction from FKF on promotion issue”, said the former AFC Leopards coach.
Manoah who was accompanied by the teams Executive Committee chairman Mr. Kahi Indimuli said they will not accept anything else other than being promoted to the Premier League.
“The agreement with football governing body in the country was that two teams that win Super League zone A and B respectively will be promoted to Premier league we are only waiting for a letter confirming our promotion,” said Indimuli.
United won the Super League zone B with 78 points. They lost only two matches and conceded 10 goals.
United were followed by their arch rivals Palos FC from Kisumu County.
Kenya Police were the champions of Zone A and together with United they are pushing for their promotion to the Premier league.
FKF have already confirmed promotion of Kakamega’s Homeboyz and Posta Rangers who played in the FKF league last season.
KPL has gone ahead to announce the date when the league kicks off and released fixtures for the same.
The move has elicited sharp reactions from United and Police teams who demanded that they should play in the Premier league this season.
Indimuli questioned why KPL rushed into releasing the fixtures yet the promotion stalemate has not been resolved.
“Why the rush? They should have waited for the stalemate to be resolved before releasing the fixtures,’ said Indimuli.
He added that controversies surrounding the federation kill football
in the country.
Manoah noted that as a team they did not want to lose direction that is why they are focused on starting their training as early as possible.
