West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has accused the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) party of a scheme to divide the Country on tribal lines ahead of the 2017 general elections.
Kachapin said the recent remarks by CORD principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka on alleging that Jubilee will rig elections could polarize the country.
Speaking during a development tour in Sook, Kapenguria constituency, the Governor said the opposition coalition should stop inciting Kenyans along tribal lines.
Kachapin told the Raila led team to stop blackmailing the Jubilee administration since they have failed to offer alternative leadership in the country.
“Why is Raila worried of 2017 elections? The move to warn the Jubilee coalition of a scheme to steal elections amounts to incitement and should be stopped,” he said.
The County boss urged CORD leaders to be careful with their political utterances as Kenyans do not want to return to the dark old days of political intolerance.
“All CORD is trying to do is remain politically relevant. They should not try to incite the country for their own individual interests,” he warned.
Governor Kachapin warned that the political atmosphere could get worse if leaders could not engage in a civilized manner.
He added that the recent political engagement between CORD and Jubilee coalition is wanting and could polarize the country.
“Kenyans are not ready for what happened in 2007 and leaders should learn to tolerate each other especially during political rallies,” he said.
Kachapin however defended the Jubilee administration saying they have done a lot to improve living standards of Kenyans.
He called on the opposition to interact positively with the Jubilee coalition for the sake of peace in the Country.
