The county government if Nandi under the leadership of the governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat is scaling up its efforts to improve sporting facilities so as to make the county a hub of sports recreation and innovation to cement its slogan, “source of champions”.
This has been reinforced by the fact that Nandi County has from time immemorial been regarded as the traditional home of sportsmen and women.
The discovery development and nurturing of talents is a huge investment which calls for improvement of standards of coaching, modern facilities and financial support to harness talents from grass roots.
Speaking to West Fm in his office Nandi governor Cleophas lagat said the Kipchoge Keino stadium and that of Nandi hills are in their second phase of construction and has identified several schools as talent centres for instance Kosirai girls high school for incubation of volleyball players.
Lagat said sports have shaped the history of the county from the day of the legendry Kipchoge Keino to now the “You Tube” Julius Yego and the Great marathoner Eliud Kipchoge for his latest exploits in winning the 2016 world marathon majors.
He called upon the residents to turn up in large numbers this Sunday for the inaugural of Nandi Tea Sameer /Nandi county half marathon.
The event will kick off at Namgoi and ends at Nandi tea’s Kapsiwon primary grounds.
The theme of the event will be “Nurturing champions at the source” and several prizes will be won on these competitions.
