Farmers from Matungu Sub County have been urged to prepare their pieces of land on time as planting season approaches and seek for assistance on education from agricultural officers and farming experts concerning farming so as to get enough food in the region.
Speaking to residents in Ejinja the Member of County Assembly for Koyonzo ward George Omulama urged farmers to come in large numbers so that they can benefit from the project that was started by the county government of Kakamega for ploughing their pieces of land using the tractors that were bought by the county government.
He also said that the county government will provide seedlings and fertilizer on a cheaper price so as to help farmers cut on the expenses of purchasing the farm inputs.
“We already have seedlings and fertilizer in our stores a 2 kg packet is sold at Ksh. 200 a bag of 50 kg mavuno fertilizer is sold at Ksh. 1,800.” He said.
“You have to go and pay then you will be given, if you know that you already paid for ploughing charges make sure that your piece of land has been ploughed and if at all you have not got the services then report to the ward administrator so that your complain can be dealt with,” he uttered.
He urged the county government to provide and give the bursaries on time so that students are enabled to continue with their education without interference.
“As a County Assembly we have already finished our work concerning bursaries, the Governor said that they are working on the same and if by the following week they will have not implemented we shall protest because students should not be at home and the concerned members do sluggish work about it,” he added.
