Lugari ward member of county assembly Musa Wangila Makhapila has promised to help all boda boda operators from his ward get driving license as well as register for the National Hospital Insurance Fund.
Addressing hundreds of boda boda when he officially launched the training at Lugari friends Church, Makhapila regretted the high number of operators who are losing their lives day after day with others sustains seriously injuries as a result of carelessness.
The MCA said with training such accidents will be reduced and that’s why he took the move to ensure they acquire the required knowledge for their own safety and also for the safety of their passengers as well as other road users.
Makhapila disclosed that over 300 operators from his ward will benefit from the program adding that they will only be required to pay sh. 300 which will cater for passport photo, administration and manual for their course as he promised to cater for all other requirements until each of them received his license.
Terming boda boda as important stakeholders in transport sector Makhapila appealed to other leaders from the region to help more youths in the industry get driving skills and also give them conducive environment to carry on their business.
The MCA said after the three weeks training he will also ensure on their graduation day they register for NHIF cover promising to pay for each one of them for the first month.
He said it was disappointing to see them and their families face challenge of going to hospital whenever they fell ill and the only way to help them get medical attention at an affordable rate was by ensuring they register with the national medical cover.
Elsewhere Makhapila advised boda boda to broaden their minds and register their saving and credit cooperative where they can save and borrow loans to enable them participate in other income generating activities apart from boda boda business.
