FKF urges county government to put money in sports
FKF Busia branch has urged the county government to articulate the nurturing of talents among the youths in the region by putting more resources to grow sports.
Speaking during the kick off of north western branch super league Football Kenya Federation branch youth representative Charles Mukhwana, said with the devolved government the talents should be well cultivated among the youth saying such investments should not only be in cash but in kind and technical expertise.
“The government can begin this initiative by honoring sports legends who made the county famous for the indelible mark they left in sports,” said Mukhwana
Mr. Mukhwana said the county government can do that by recognizing the efforts that the sports people are doing saying it would be part of the beginning of preserving the county’s great sports culture and heritage for generations to come.
He added that it’s the only mechanism that can save many youths to shun from radical activities and drug abuse that will ruin their lives.
He noted that the region has the potential, and asked the local leaders to invest in football where the county administration will help in nurturing talents for the youths.
“It is important that we share with our future generations on the great sporting activities and icons as sports remain one of the regions great unique resources that to date can put the county on the map of the world. We need to grow and preserve this treasure,” he said.
He also urged the county government and the corporate community to invest in local sport.
Mr. Mukhwana told the journalists that the ministry at the county level should motivate more persons to get involved in sports at various levels.
“We want to urge companies and organizations to gang up with county government to invest more in sports. Research has shown in other countries that for every dollar invested in sports, the society can yield an average return of three dollars in benefits,” Mukhwana said.
He further indicated that, that fact should be a powerful motivator for other community development organization to get more involved in sport.
The partisan approach of the corporate society to sport has been an area of concern locally for quite some time.
He said that since then a lot of members and people in the community have had training which he says it helps to raise awareness and we are in a stronger position now.
Mukhwana said that the team change has had difficult times since it came into the federation urging the local leaders to to team up and save the dying talents.
“I want to appeal to the Busia county governor Sospeter Ojaamong’ and the entire team of cabinet secretary in charge of the sports not only to wait for Boxing Day and spend millions of money on a one day event but organize along effective program. He said.
“The members of constituency should engage CDFC funds that are supposed to be channeled to sports in actively sponsoring the youths.”He added.
During the occasion the team got a sponsor of five thousand cash for registration and two balls plus one pump from engineer Dan Barasa as a way to promote the sports in the region.
