The standoff at Kapenguria Police Station in West Pokot County is finally over after the lone gunman was neutralized by special police forces at the scene.
The siege which lasted around eight hours required the collective efforts of Recce squad officers. The suspect, Omar Eumond, had reportedly killed five officers, and solely spearheaded the standoff against police since early morning on Thursday.

The shooter who was reportedly a school teacher, and a terror suspect, was earlier on taken into custody by police on duty, before he snatched a riffle from one of the officers and opened fire, killing at least five police officers within the premises.
Gunshots were heard inside the station as the now famous operation went on, keeping Kenyans guessing and flocking to conventional and social media sites to get a scoop of what was really happening.
Among the officers killed, is the station’s OCS, according to West Pokot County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga.
