At least five police officers including one Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS) and four police constables have been killed inside the Kapenguria Police Station in West Pokot County following an attack at the station on Thursday, July 14.
The county commissioner Wilson Wanyanga confirming the incident said an Al-Shabaab terror suspect arrested a day earlier whom they were detaining who has been identified as Omar Okwaki Eumond grabbed a firearm from one officer and opened gunfire.
Initial assessment on the event show’s terrorist Omar Okwaki planned his escape from the cells and that he was well trained in handling and dispensing different types of firearms.
It’s not yet clear how he made out of the holding cells and outdid an officer and subsequently outgunned the rest.
The seize fire that started around 4am has been continuing with firearm exchange between the Alshabaab suspects and the police.
Rescue team especially from the General Service Unit ,(GSU) have been deployed to help arrest the situation.
