Two police officers, Simon Lekinoi and Hassan Tolke were arraigned in a Webuye law courts and charged with neglect of official duty.
The two are police constables and are attached at the Axle Load Unity at the Webuye weigh bridge, they were arrested on August 20th by the anti corruption officers.
The two had jointly and knowingly neglected their official duty by permitting a fuel tanker registration number KAZ 2711g that was carrying 2300kgs above the required measures to pass at the weighbridge.
The tanker was being driven by Robert Kaleb and was heading to Malaba town from Eldoret town and could have been fined 245,740 for carrying excess luggage.
The police officers denied the charges before the Webuye law courts residence magistrate Thomas Mwangi and were each released on a cash bail of Ksh. 35000
The case will be mentioned on 25th of August 2016 and will be heard on the 5th of October this year in the same court room number two.
Members of the public have been complaining that officers attached to weighbridges across the country are said to be negotiating with drivers who carry excess loads to pass at the weighbridges without being fined.
This case is among the first cases involving police officers directly manning the weighbridge and the public awaits to see if the two will be judged to serve as a lesson to other corrupt police officers.
