In a show of solidarity, the Upper Eastern and the Pastoralist Community of Northern Kenya held a press conference in support of the disbandment of the National Olympic committee by the Sports Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Hassan Wario.
The Upper Eastern representatives stated that the action of the cabinet secretary was both timely as well as legitimate and that it’s a step towards redeeming the image of Kenya as a country. “The alleged mismanagement of Olympic events by the National Olympic Committee is a big affront not only to the athletes and entire Kenyan team who raised the Kenyan flag high up at a global stage but also an affront to the sovereignty of the entire people of Kenya,” said Kabelo, who was leading the group.
Adan Kabelo strongly rebuked the move by some politicians, who were condemning the actions and efforts of the government to bring the alleged culprits to justice, calling for the resignation of the cabinet secretary. “I would like to petition the government to have the matter of the Rio Olympics be investigated further and the right culprits to be held accountable,” Mr. Kabelo said.
He further urged the government to ensure that no false accusations are thrown around leading to wrongful arrests as the high ranking politicians try to shield themselves from facing the law. The committee went ahead to congratulate and thank the athletes together with their coaches for the outstanding performance at Rio De Janeiro amid the difficulties and cruelty meted on them by the very people supposed to give them care and support.
