As the political temperatures heat up, new entrant Mildred Makhanu Etete is looking for support for the MCA seat in Busia county, Malaba South Ward are coming up in a bid to win over supporters and voters with the aim of wanting to serve the people.
The seat is currently held by Philip Mudai who won it on UDF ticket in 2013 elections. The party has since been dissolved to form Jubilee Party.
Addressing the press in Busia Town on Tuesday, Mrs. Etete claimed that the Ward is devoid of leadership with many stalled projects and poverty taking its toll in the area.
“I will make sure women and youth benefit from funds meant for them. I will also ensure Kocholia Sub-county hospital operates at full capacity with running water.”
Many schools in the area which have been operating for over 10 years have only four classrooms. I will rectify such anomalies and strive to introduce meals to improve the performance of schools in national exams .she said.
Mildred Makhanu Etete, an “A” Level certificate holder in Math, Geography and Economics said she has opted to seek the seat on ODM ticket considering it is the favorite party in the area.
“I want to bring back the image of the party which only managed one seat in 2013 elections out of six. It is my prayer that nomination process will be free and fair to revive the image of the party in the county.
I will also empower the youth and women economically and return school dropouts back to school. Equitable distribution of ward bursary funds will also be my priority,” he said.
She appealed to women to seek elective positions to ensure the one-third threshold is met. “It is a shame that only one woman- Florence Opemi of Bukhayo West Ward – was elected as MCA in 2013 polls out of 35 wards,” she said.
