Kenya has experienced great growth in the tourism sector by 15 % in its recovery period after various factors like terrorism dwindled the sector towards the end of last year.
The government together with the private sector has heavily invested in the sector since the country is resilient as a tourism destination.
Driven by the private sector, the government has invested 15% of the tourism revenue in security to ensure that tourists, investors, and all Kenyans are safe.
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Najib Balala says that 100 billion Kenya shillings have been invested in the infrastructure sector to renovate roads especially in various Mombasa tourist destinations like Lamu, Malindi, and Dongokundu.
“Serious actions are being taken and I champion them, for instance, use of a digital platform to market Kenya globally,” said Balala.
The CS was speaking to various investors and exhibitors from different countries during the Magical Kenya Travel Expo in Nairobi.
The same event saw the Cabinet secretary launch a Uni-Visa dubbed ‘Your passport’ to facilitate travelling in the East African region and the Northern Corridor member states nations.
“Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda will have a borderless East Africa that will encourage competition and innovation in the Tourism sector,” Balala added.
The government has also granted a license to Qatar airline to fly to Mombasa making the skies open for business with an aim to foster healthy competition from other international airlines.
With Kenya offering a diversity of cultures and products, the Tourism industry has also invested Kshs 1.2 billion for Charter Incentive programme for adequate investment.
“Nairobi is vibrant with new hotels like Sankara, Kempinski, Radisson Blue among many others to cater for tourists and other businesses,” the CS reiterated.
The East Africa Tourism platform partnership in collaboration with the government promised to work closely with the KQ, Turkish Airways, Emirates Airlines, Ethiopia Airlines, and Qatar Airlines.
The newly launched Uni-Visa will help tackle the movement bottleneck from one place to another with locals being able to travel using their national identity cards to boost regional tourism for economic growth and stability.
