Parents have been urged to closely monitor their children’s movements during the long December holidays just to be sure they are safe and to keep them from engaging in uncouth behaviour.
Speaking in Mufungu village, Sirisia, in Bungoma county during her husband’s send off, retired teacher Mr. Jonathan Kiteke Musebe, widow Grace Musebe, herself a retired teacher, encouraged parents to be responsible and make sure that their children are well-guarded and kept busy.
She said many parents do not engage their children who wander from one place to another ending up interacting with others who teach them witty behavior.
Mrs. Musebe urged parents to utilize this long vacation well, by knowing their children more and being more conversant with them, while guiding them well.
She said as a retired teacher they had a lot to deal with when it came to pupils especially in matters to do with discipline, and she urged parents to work hand in hand with the teachers to mould a better society.
On the just released KCPE results, Musebe said it was a great surprise to both the parents, children and teachers who were used to results being released after Christmas and said it was a good gesture, given that parents will be prepared to cater for fees in January.
She also urged those parents whose children did not make it according to their set targets, to encourage them and help them attain their dreams instead of accusing them.
The late Jonathan left behind three widows Grace Musebe, a retired teacher, Florence Namalwa the Deputy Headteacher Machakha RC Primary School, and Catherine Wakhu, Headteacher Kamunyong’ole primary, and both praised their husband for uniting them and instilling discipline amongst his children, saying he had left a worthy legacy behind.
They also urged other widows to be good ambassadors of respect in the villages and stand out as tough women worthy to be emulated.
Evelyne Wekesa, the Sirisia Sub County ward administrator, praised the father who made sure they had quality education and held better positions in society urging other parents to prioritize education especially for the girl child.
She also urged residents and Kenyans as a whole to unite as the country gears towards elections in 2017 urging them to shun away from politicians who might want to divide them along tribal lines.
