Concern has been raised over the delay in releasing funds meant to mark the Abanyore cultural event which is to be held on the 27th December 2016.
According to Abanyore secretary general Koki Kweya, the money has not been released by the Ministry of Gender, Youth, Culture and Sports headed by Executive Committee member Dismas Ojuok.
He said that they had submitted a budget of Kshs 2 million to the department three months ago and they are yet to receive the cash.
“We are very worried that the event may not take place as scheduled and we are appealing to the department to allocate us the funds to make the event successful,” said Koki.
The group has now called on the Ministry to facilitate the event that will be used to showcase and promote their culture.
Kweya said that the one-day event is customarily held every year in December and it would be regrettable if doesn’t take place in Emuhaya and Luanda Sub Counties.
The official, who was speaking at Luanda town in his office, said the community is prepared to hold the event and asked them to attend the function.
“Last year the event had a good attendance and we managed to display our rich culture. We would want to do the same this year,” said Kweya.
Maragoli cultural day which is to be held this month is the main event that was initiated by the late Moses Mudamba, father of the former deputy prime minister Musalia Mudavadi.
Efforts to reach executive committee member for culture by the press for comments were futile as we were told that he was out of office on official duties.
