A family at Bituyu village in Mautuma location of Lugari Sub County welcomed the New Year on a sad note after their 15-year-old daughter was defiled and brutally murdered by an unknown thug. Mr. Joseph Mukhwana Nyongesa, father to the deceased, narrated to the press some of the events that led to disappearance of the daughter whose body was retrieved from banks of river Bituyu.
“My daughter, Rose Nyongesa, left for a night ceremony at our next door neighbour on Friday evening. She was in the company of her female friend,” recalled Nyongesa.
However, the girl, a standard seven pupil at Mbagara Primary School, failed to return
home, “Then we received the sad news of her death on Sunday morning,” added Nyongesa.
One of the locals, Mrs Ann Lwamba, stumbled on the lifeless body as she walked downstream to fetch water at about 6 am.
“The body had several serious injuries all over, including on the private parts, a clear indication the assailant must have defiled her before strangling her to death,” observed Mrs Lwamba.
According to Mrs Lwamba, injuries around the deceased’s neck was an indication she was killed using a rope.
The locals, who spoke to the media, were yet to come to terms with the presence of a hen claimed to have been found resting on the deceased’s head in the early morning hours.
“The hen was found resting on the deceased’s head and surprisingly when people started gathering at the scene, it rose and started moving round the body. We have tried to chase it but it’s all in vain,” explained shocked residents adding the killers might have used the hen to cleanse themselves after the evil act.
Police officers at Turbo station arrived at the tragic scene before removing the body to Kipkarren’s Kimbilio Funeral Home in Uasin Gishu County.
Lugari Sub County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), Bakari Ndzovu, told West Media security officers were holding in custody two suspects in connection with the murder.
“We are currently interrogating one woman and her son,” disclosed Ndzovu.
