The Christian community of the Salvation Army Church Elgon Division witnessed the installation of the new Divisional Commander and Divisional Director of Women Ministries Lieutenant Colonel Fanuel and Lucy Maube.
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, First Lady Judy Ojaamong and Chief Secretary of the Kenya West Territory in Kakamega witnessed the colourful ceremony at Kolanya Salvation Army Corps.
Maube took over the helm of the church leadership from Major Henry Changalwa who swapped positions with Maube in Eldoret Division of the Church.
Lieutenant Colonel Maube said Elgon Division of the church has made tremendous progress since 1926 when it was started with the construction of the health centre and the increase in the number of church members.
“We have currently 17 primary and four secondary schools (Kolanya Boys, Kolanya Girls, Aboloi and Aedomoru secondary schools) which are run by the church,” he said.
Ojaamong praised the church for its love, foresight and being peaceful, adding that the performance of its premier schools Kolanya Boys and Girls Secondary Schools has raised the profile of the County.
The Governor said his government will upgrade Kolanya Health Centre to levels where it will be equipped with laboratory, theatre and maternity wing.
Deputy Speaker Moses Ote said they are pushing to have a Salvation Army Church University in Elgon Division.
Also present were Kolanya Girls National School Principal, Salome Papoi and Kolanya Boys Principal Ibrahim Nakhanya.
