Vihiga Branch Kenya Union of Clinical Officers chairman Kennedy Ochogia has said they are open to talks with governors and relevant legislative bodies to increase their pay.
He said the union’s national executive council has met with the Governors’ council as well as salary and remuneration commission and presented a memorandum that will see them enjoy more allowances and basic pay.
“We have not joined doctors in the strike since we are giving more time for talks between the union officials and the respective county governments,” said Ochogia.
Ochogia was speaking at Mbale town when the union officials met area governor Moses Akaranga over their grievances.
The chairman said the clinical officers’ complaints must be addressed so that they can continue offering quality services to the public.
“We have also suggested that our training and scope of practice should be reviewed because it is in the public domain that most Kenyans do not understand our job description,” said the chairman.
Akaranga said the clinicians are working despite the doctors’ strike and urged the patients to visit public hospitals for medical attention.
