Kakamega County Chief of Staff, Nabii Nabwera, has appealed to the newly sworn-in Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) Commissioners, led by Mr. Wafula Chebukati, to swiftly address challenges facing ongoing second phase of nationwide mass voter
registration exercise.
Addressing participants during a civic education training programme on voter mobilization held at Downhill Resort in Matete, Lugari Sub County Nabwera said there were several issues that need urgent attention to avert tension among voters.
Citing reported cases where some individuals share national identity card (ID) numbers and claims of thousands of the documents lying in hospitals and M-Pesa shops in central region, Nabwera expressed his worry over what he described as a carefully choreographed election
rigging by the ruling coalition.
“The Jubilee administration wants to justify its misguided belief in the tyranny of numbers through such unconventional schemes,” claimed Nabwera, insisting a united opposition had the highest number of potential voters ahead of August 8th general elections.
The county chief of staff urged a team of 45 mobilizers who attended the one day workshop to work closely with IEBC and other stakeholders to ensure all potential voters are registered in Lugari decrying low turnout of eligible voters in the area.
“IEBC should be able to capture over 26,000 new voters in Lugari Sub County in this second mass voter listing,” projected Nabwera.
The trainees were drawn from all the six assembly wards in the sub county.
Nabwera who is also the Lugari sub-branch Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party chairman and supporter of CORD leader Raila Odinga has declared his interest
in the Lugari parliamentary seat.
