Busia First Lady Judy Ojaamong today presented a cheque of Ksh20, 000 to go towards payment of school fees for an orphan, Lydia Achieng Owino, a form three student of Busiada Girls Secondary School in Butula Sub County.
Presenting the cheque to the school Principal Judith Okanda, Judy Ojaamong promised to clear the balance of Ksh 17,000 soon.
“I am happy that the principal agreed to keep the girl in school with the outstanding balance following my intervention. It is my prayer that Lydia will focus on her studies despite losing both her parents,” she said.
Okanda denied social media reports that the girl was sent home due to school fees arrears. “She sneaked with other girls who were sent home last Friday but returned to school the following day after I ordered for her immediate return,” she said.
“I am surprised that my decision to go home after the death of my mother was misconstrued to mean I was sent home due to fee arrears,” said Lydia, “I thank the First Lady for offering to pay my school fees. I promise that there will be gained value for the sponsorship. I will give back to the society by educating my siblings when I get a job after my university education,” she said.
Judy Ojaamong later addressed the students at the school in the dining hall. She advised the students to keep away from campaigns during the holidays but instead focus on their studies.
“You should also stop advertising yourselves on social media until you complete your studies,” she said.
