Bungoma County governor Ken Lusaka has assured Bungoma residents of regional balance in the rationalization exercise going on of hiring of enforcement officers that he had earlier stopped after an outcry on how the exercise was carried out.
Speaking in Kimilili Sub County in a meeting with community health volunteers and village elders Lusaka said after stopping the exercise he instructed the public service board to ensure there is regional balance across all the nine Sub counties.
He said it would not be fair to have one Sub County have many selected to join the profession yet other areas do not get any slots and yet we are all in Bungoma County saying the exercise is supposed to end by Friday this week.
Governor Lusaka also assured the community health volunteers that they have been captured in the 2017/2018 financial year budget and will be paid some allowances at the end of the month saying they have been very helpful in the society.
He said from their cooperation at the grass root level they have been able to curb the spread of diseases saying they are a very important group in the society and their efforts therefore have to be highly rewarded.
On the same note the village elders also requested the County government to set aside something for them saying in their line of duty they undergo many challenges and are not on any payroll and need to be considered.
Bungoma County government CEC in charge of public administration Mokin Arap Ptanguny said with the structuring of the County government there is some light at the end of the tunnel as they will be able to be absorbed under the village council working under village administrators who will be hired.
He added that the County has not been able to hire the village administrators yet but after they are hired the village elders will be given a priority of serving under them and be given allowances in every sitting. However Kimilili Mca David
Kimilili MCA David Barasa said he has drafted a bill that aims to recognize village elders and their roles in the society saying it aims at having the County government set aside some money for them to help them take care of their families.
Governor Lusaka, however, called upon the resident to ensure they register in large numbers after the deadline was extended to Thursday to ensure they participate in the forthcoming general election.
