West Pokot County top security organs have met to find ways of setting up a suspension and end to the banditry and cattle rustling activities along the border with the neighbouring counties of Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties.
The team said that there is increased highway robbery and raids along the borders of the three counties.
Led by the West Pokot Acting County commissioner, Mr Khaliff Abdulahi said the government was conducting security operations in Baringo and Laikipia and will soon start along the borders of West Pokot, Turkana, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.
Khaliff said the area has witnessed many insecurity incidents and spirited attacks on motorists by bandits and criminals in areas like Kaakong, Kambi Kayara, Lami Nyeusi, Kainuk and Kalimorock along the Kitale-Lodwar Highway.
He pointed out that the government has set up efforts to contain the situation through deploying Quick Response team (QRT) along the highway and enhance patrols along the highway between Orwa and Kainuk.
“We shall deal with those posing insecurity and carrying out raids long the A1 highway. We will not get tired,” said Khaliff.
In a peace forum meeting held in Kapenguria town that brought together Pokot council of elders, chiefs, religious leaders, youth, Bunge County and national administration and other peace stakeholders, Khaliff urged chiefs from the area to help in maintaining peace in the region.
He issued a stern warning to perpetrators of crime and culprits involved in criminal activities to cease, adding that their days are numbered. “We want you to take a message to locals. We don’t want cattle rustling and attacks,” he said.
