A dark cloud hangs over Kipkaren market, Chekalini location in Lugari Sub County after the body of a newly born baby was found dumped in Kipkaren River. The body which had been wrapped in a polythene paper was found by a young boy who was bird hunting along the river.
“I was bird hunting along this river and managed to hit a bird which fell right at the riverbank. When I rushed to pick it I stumbled on a black paper bag just at the exact place
where the bird fell,” explained the 12 year old boy adding that when he looked inside he was shocked to see a baby body before he rushed to inform other residents.
The incident attracted attention of hundreds of residents who thronged the scene in disbelief, strongly condemning the heinous act and they appealed for a thorough investigation to be done to nab the culprit.
Police officers from Lumakanda station removed the body to Chebaiywa mortuary as they launched investigation into the matter. Officer commanding station (OCS) William Oyugi appealed to anybody with information about the incident to inform his officers
for legal action to be taken against suspect.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the baby boy was thrown from the top of the bridge and landed on the muddy part on the riverbank but he died after the head hit a stone.
