Speaking to West Media, the school’s head teacher, Mrs. Priscila Sulwe, narrated how four mud-walled classes were destroyed after the roofs were ripped off in the 6pm incident.
“Iron sheets from four classrooms were ripped off and hurled several metres away landing on the nearby power lines causing a blackout in the area,” she said adding there were no causalities as the pupils had gone home. “The watchman was alone in the school.”
However, Mrs Sulwe together with the school management committee led by PTA Chairman Nathan Olindo and his Board of Management counterpart Mr. Cliff Wendo have appealed to area leaders and well-wishers to come to the aid of the school, adding that the school was already facing a shortage of classrooms.
They said the mud structures failed to provide appropriate learning environment for both teachers and pupils, lamenting that some pupils have been infected with jiggers.
“During this rainy season it’s terrible here, the children fail to concentrate on their studies and some are even infested with jiggers,” said the head teacher.
“If no positive feedback is received its going to be difficult for learning to continue. We don’t even have a single tree where pupils can learn under,” added Mr. Wendo.
