Leaders have appealed to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC)to crack the whip on other leaders who are spreading incitement in the country. Speaking to the press in Kitale, Professor Herman Manyora from the University of Nairobi said NCIC has done little to quell the rising tensions of incitement being propagated by politicians. He urged the commission to do what it takes to make sure those responsible for the incitements are arrested and charged in court.
Manyora said NCIC, since its inception, has never taken any inciter to court and no action has so far been taken against politicians who have been propagating incitement. “I call upon the NCIC chairman Francis Ole Kaparo to take action against the instigators of hatred in the country to serve as an example so that the reckless talks can be eliminated,” said Manyora.
His sentiments were echoed by the Free Pentecost Fellowship Churches leader Richard Lusweti, who appealed to leaders to tame their tongues and avoid divisive politics. Lusweti said most leaders especially in the three counties of Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, and West Pokot played a vital role in inciting locals against each other during the 2007/2008 post election violence. He said that the nation isn’t ready this time round to be divided by the same politicians who propagate hate. “We will not allow politicians to divide the peaceful residents of this county and action must be taken against those behind divisive politics,” said Lusweti.
He urged the residents to continue living in harmony with others and avoid divisive politics and politicians who are out to cause separation for their own selfish gains.
