Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga has announced he will support Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong in the ODM primaries scheduled for Friday, April 7th.
Speaking at the Agricultural Training Centre when they met ODM delegates from the constituency, Odanga said he decided to support Ojaamong against Funyula MP Paul Otuoma.
“After months of soul searching I made a unilateral decision to support Ojaamong, not because he gave me and any cent but I want to walk with him through this journey. No Government is perfect in this world. Busia County Government has small weaknesses but this does not mean that it has not done anything in the last four years,” he said.
Odanga dismissed claims from certain quarters that Ojaamong’s administration has done nothing since taking over the reins of power in 2013.
“There were no roads in most parts of the county since 1963. Many projects have been implemented by the County Government. Give Ojaamong and his team enough time to fulfill the dreams of Busia residents,” he said.
He appealed to Matayos residents to remain firmly fixed in ODM and vote for Ojaamong. “I was also an amateur in parliament but I need five more years to become an expert in the House,” he said.
Odanga called for peaceful campaigns, saying leaders who campaign based along ethnic lines should be rejected by the voters.
The Governor told Odanga to be his own self. “Don’t be intimidated by the witchhunt orchestrated by some Luhya leaders. Emulate a Bukusu warrior who faces the knife like a total man.”
