A family from Nzoia village, Sango sub location, Likuyani Sub County has appealed for thorough investigation into an incident where a 17 year old girl from the family, who was a school girl, disappeared under unclear circumstances before her body was found in Bungoma referral mortuary.
According to the father Mr. Paul Wanyonyi Makokha, his daughter Damaris Nafuna, who was a form three student at Kogo secondary school, left for school on 13th January 2017 but she never returned home.
He said a after a week of unsuccessful search he reported the matter at Kogo police patrol base. “We searched for her in all our relatives and friends but she was nowhere to be found, I then reported the issue at Kogo police patrol base,” explained Wanyonyi.
However, he said after few days he received information that his neighbor’s son John Wafula Kifuli had been seen with the missing girl and had eloped with her to unknown destination, allegations that were strongly refuted by the suspect’s parents.
On 28th February he was informed that his daughter had been admitted at Webuye sub county hospital but on visiting the facility he was told that it was not her daughter but the suspect John Wafula who was admitted there and discharged.
After learning that he was being sought after in his Webuye hideout, Wafula together with the girl allegedly relocated to Kanduyi and they could not be traced.
Wanyonyi said after failing to trace his daughter, he had given up hoping that she will one day return home before he received shocking news that her body was at Bungoma mortuary.
“Friday evening I received a call from our assistant chief Wycliffe Masinde informing me that he had received information from a lady who claimed to be related to Mrs. Margaret Muricho Mutweya who is my neighbor, informing him that my daughter had died and taken to
Bungoma mortuary,” said Wanyonyi adding that Mrs. Muricho is the mother to Wafula, who is the suspect.
On Saturday morning the father travelled to Bungoma and on reaching the mortuary he saw Mrs. Muricho, though she went before he could talk to her.
He later identified his daughter’s remains though they had registered her at the morgue using different names. He then reported the incident at Bungoma police station where he was
advised to swear an affidavit at the Bungoma court before he could remove the body from the mortuary.
At the moment, the father wants justice to be realized in the case, “All I want is justice
for my daughter,” said Wanyonyi adding that the cause of his daughter’s death was yet to be established.
