Nangina Member of the County Assembly John Obwogo has denied reports from a section of the media that one person was killed when his group allegedly clashed with that of Funyula MP and Gubernatorial aspirant Paul Otuoma.
Obwogo said his supporter who was clobbered with a club on the head and hands is recovering at the New Busia Maternity and Nursing Home Bulanda in Busia Town while two others received some slight injuries.
“Some media houses also reported that I am being interrogated by the ODM party organ. Such misleading reports can fuel animosity in the sub-county,” he said.
Obwogo took journalists to the hospital to confirm that Boniface Odenyo who was reportedly killed in the fracas was in stable condition at the hospital.
“Reporters should before filing stories establish facts on the ground. Such inaccurate reports can raise political temperatures when there is none,” he said.
Busia police have also denied reports that one person died during the clashes.
He also denied that his supporters attacked Otuoma’s group. “I had booked the venue with my rally scheduled for 4pm on Friday while that of Otuoma was to start at 10am and end by 3pm.
“When we arrived at 4pm, Otuoma’s rally was still in progress. We left and came back at 5pm and found the meeting still on. Pandemonium broke out with two sides engaging in heated arguments,” he said.
Speaking at his hospital bed Odenyo said he was attacked by a group of youth with a club, adding that he knows one of the attackers.
He blamed the chaos on the ODM Party. “There are plans to give some camps direct nominations. This will be a blow to the party. We shall seek Independent ticket and ensure the ODM candidates are voted out,” he said, “I did not and I will not fight Otuoma since he is not in my class. I am only against intimidation of my supporters and ODM’s scheme to postpone the elections twice without notice,” he said, adding that he will deliver for Ojaamong in all the five polling stations in his Ward.
