Kakamega Boys High School have been crowned the 2017 15s rugby champions after defeating Laiser Hill 18-14 in the final on Saturday. The 2013 national champions were looking to reclaim their spot in this year’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games, and they set the trend from the first game. The rugby powerhouse defeated Upper Hill 5-0 in the semi-finals to set up a tantalising match against Laiser Hill who had defeated St. Marys Yala 27-16 in an entertaining semi-final match up.
The two teams will proceed to the East African games in Uganda, which are set to be held in August, together with third placed Upper Hill who defeated St. Mary’s Yala in the third place playoffs.
In the hockey competition, Bungoma County’s St Cecilia Misikhu emerged victorious in the girls’ final category after defeating St. Josephs Kitale 2-0 in the final. Misikhu girls had earlier eliminated defending champions Sinyolo on Friday in the semi finals, defeating them 2-1. The match had ended in a draw, and penalties were needed to settle the score. St Josephs Kitale had defeated Moi Girls in the semis.
