Residents of Nandi County have been urged to maintain peace during the Jubilee nominations slated for tomorrow and vote peacefully. This is according to peace corps and champions of peace team.
Addressing peace stakeholders in a meeting at one of the hotels in Kapsabet town, the committee led by Kaburwo Council of elders, Uraia, peace committees and Champions of Peace among others, appealed to residents and leaders to uphold peace and remain vigilant.
They cited that mostly, the youth are mainly targeted when it comes to political chaos, and urged them to keep away from dirty politics.
They reminded the people of Nandi to vote wisely and choose their leaders without basing on party or tribal grounds but according to what they have done in the society, especially concerning developments.
Nandi county portrays a potential threat to geopolitics as it borders neighbouring counties of Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga and Uasin Gishu, which are cosmopolitan areas.
The team works closely with the national and county governments to be able to deliberate on strategic and work plan for peace and mitigation.
They called upon politicians to encourage political tolerance, accept defeat, especially those who will lose and support those who will emerge winners.
The peace meeting was conducted ahead of the Jubilee nominations, and the chair of the Jubilee Election Board in Nandi Mr Mark Lelei said all the preparations for the exercise are ready, including security, and they’ll be receiving voting materials today in the Jubilee office in Nandi.
