Former Mt Elgon MP Fred Kapondi Chesebe floored six other candidates to be the Jubilee parliamentary nominee in the August polls and promised a bruising battle with the incumbent John Bomet Serut who has maintained his independent candidature.
Kapondi garnered 12051 votes followed by Harry Kimtai with 8890 votes, Chemwotei Evans 5111,Mokin Arap Tanguny 2442, Moss Ndiema 954, Namtala James 902 and finally Michael Kawon with 720 votes.
He called upon those whom he had defeated to join forces with him to ensure he wins the seat in the August polls saying the people of Mt Elgon had suffered for a long time due to poor leadership and it is time to provide good leadership to them.
The former MP further asserted that Mt Elgon constituency is a Jubilee stronghold zone saying this time round the residents will not sit on the fence and elect a leader on an independent candidacy platform since they want to be in government and reap.
However, he said many people did not turn up to vote during the nomination exercise due to the confusion that was experienced after few papers were brought during the first day and the exercise was postponed for a day.
In the MCA post in Elgon ward Hillary Kiptalam emerged the winner with 2318, Kaptama ward Francis Masai with 2702, Chebyuk ward Titus Chemoka, Kapkateny ward Joan Chemoyek 1756, Chesikaki ward Joshua Kipkut and Cheptais ward Jane Chebet with 3019.
In Kimilili constituency Suleiman Kasuti Murunga won the FORD Kenya parliamentary ticket with 8243 against Mathews Makanda who got 3453 votes.
While conceding defeat Makanda said he did his best and had agents in all the polling stations saying there were issues of irregularities reported where his opponent transported people to vote in various polling stations.
However, he wished him well saying he has respected the will of the people of Kimilili and if called upon by Murunga to support him he will do so willingly and also he will support those who have been nominated in the MCA position in the party.
In the wards, the winner in Kamukuywa is Joseph Mumbwani 1197, Kibingei ward Justus Kibaba 1535, Maeni ward Florence Wekesa 1413 and in Kimilili ward Emmanuel Makhapila Mwangale with 961 votes.
