Jubilee leaders from West Pokot County have declared the region a Jubilee zone saying the party will scoop all elective posts in the August polls. The leaders slammed their KANU rivals over claims that the County is KANU zone, urging them to stop misleading area residents.
Speaking on during the ruling party celebrations in Kapenguria, the leaders led by West Pokot governor Simon Kachapin, Pokot South member of parliament Mr. David Pkossing and former Kapenguria member of parliament Rev. Julius Murgor, who is eyeing the County senator position and other leaders nominated to vie on the Jubilee ticket, the leaders maintained that West Pokot is a Jubilee zone.
The leaders accused KANU leaders from the County of cheating area residents just to convince them to remain in the independence party, citing that residents didn’t benefit from anything during the KANU regime. “During the KANU regime we did not benefit as a community,” Kachapin said.
The governor asked the area senator Prof. John Lonyangapuo to prepare for a bruising battle and to get ready for a live debate in Kapenguria town.
“He has been spreading lies around. We want to come here before the electorate in May, June, July and pose questions for two hours and allow residents to also ask us questions. Am sure he will escape,” he said.
He said that his government will continue initiating projects in the region to change and spur development and uplift the economy of the area.
The County boss promised that the team will conduct peaceful campaigns in the area. Governor Kachapin cautioned other leaders from the county against spreading propaganda and insults. “We don’t want tribalism but residents should engage in businesses,” he said.
The leaders vowed to popularize the Jubilee party in the area and make sure it garners enough votes.
Mr Pkossing accused KANU leaders led by Lonyangapuo of blackmail and witchhunt.
Rev. Murgor who is eyeing for the senatorial seat was optimistic that the party will win all seats in the coming August Polls.
Other leaders present who were present included West Pokot Deputy Governor Titus Lotee, Sigor Jubilee parliamentary aspirant Mr Peter Lochakapong, Kacheliba Jubilee parliamentary aspirant Mr John Lodinyo and County women representative Lilian Tomtom.
