An assistant Chief has been arrested by the police for allegedly being involved in a murder case in Vihiga County. Vunandi sub chief Hellen Kavaya is alleged to have instructed four youth to assault the deceased Kefa Magomere 47, at his home in Vunandi at 9 pm after a domestic squabble with his wife on Tuesday.

It is said that the administrator acted after getting a report from the deceased’s wife Judith Akinyi that her late husband had battered her at home. The deceased was later found dead in his compound the following morning after the assault and the chief apprehended.

Vihiga Police boss Sarah Duncan confirmed the incident and said the culprit is being held at Vihiga police station. “We have launched investigations and the suspect will be arraigned in court soon after carrying out an appropriate inquiry into the matter,” said Duncan.

She said the body of the deceased was taken to Vihiga hospital mortuary for postmortem. Duncan said the four youth have not been arrested and have gone into hiding after realizing that the police were on their trail.
