NASA leaders led by Raila Odinga and Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula led a host of other party affiliated leaders and followers in mourning the death of FORD Kenya’s party secretary David Eseli Simiyu’s mother Rebbecca Nasimiyu and took the opportunity to lash at the Jubilee government for the prevalent high cost of living.
Raila Odinga who had just jetted in from a trip to Israel said he had prayed for the country while in the foreign holy land and blamed the Jubilee government for what he termed as having failed to positively impact in the lives of Kenyans in all the projects they initiated in the country.
He said it is unfortunate that the cost of basic food commodities like maize and sugar have sky-rocketted, saying Kenyans are really suffering and struggling to make ends meet saying it is only the NASA government which will be able to save Kenyans from the suffering.
“We have a strategy that will be able to save this country, within the first ninety days in government we will be able to streamline the economy of the country and have Kenyans enjoy the fruits of their labour and there will be no more suffering,” he said.
Presidential candidate Raila Odinga further cautioned the IEBC against bowing to pressure from the Jubilee government to have the votes tallied at the national tallying centre in Nairobi saying they will have their parallel tallying centers at each polling station to ensure transparency.
He further called upon members of the public to be vigilant and ensure all registered members of the society turn up to vote during the election day saying it will be their day of liberation and they will not take it for granted.
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula supported his sentiments, saying it is a shame that a litre of milk currently costs more than a litre of Petrol yet the Jubilee government leaders are sitting pretty claiming they have delivered in their term of office.
He claimed the imported maize from Mexico by the government is a scam as it would not take less than a day to ship maize from Mexico yet it normally take three days saying their maybe some hidden agenda propelled by some leaders in government.
The Bungoma senator however defended his decision to remain in NASA coalition even after he was not nominated to be the flagbearer saying FORD Kenya as a party has been given slots and after election it will just be implemantation.
Gubernatorial race
Kakamega senator Dr Bonny Khalwale who is eyeing the Kakamega governor seat currently held by Wycliffe Oparanya called upon Raila Odinga to support him saying he is best suited for the job and will be able to oust Oparanya.
He called upon residents from Western Kenya to ensure they vote in governors from the NASA coalition as it will help strengthen the coaltion and provide proper leadership and development to them and their future generations.
On the other hand, Funyula MP Dr. Paul Otwoma who is vying in Busia County as an independent candidate urged the NASA coalition principals in their strongholds not to indulge voters on whom to vote for saying if those who bagged nominations are confident they will emerge winners.
He said the main aim is to ensure Jubilee government is out of office and for residents of various counties it will be their obligation to choose their own leaders and therefore the pricipals should only focus on the presidentil candidacy and leave the rest to them.
Ford Kenya national vice chairman Joel Ruhu urged the ford Kenya leaders to be stern in the coalition and esure what they have been allocated eventually comes to pass saying all the parties are equal partners.
Other leader who attended the funetal include MPs Suleiman Murunga (Kimilili) Ferdinand Wanyonyi (Kwanza) Sakwa Bunyasi (Nambale) Enoch Kibunguchi (Likuyani) and Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini) and a host of MCAs and nominees on a FORD Kenya ticket on various posts.
Family condolences
The family of the late Mama Rabecca Nasimiyu led by Tongaren MP Dr. David Eseli Simiyu and termed her as a harworking lady who was a great disciplinarian who ensured all her children grew up in a holistic way in life.
Other leaders who send their condolences include Nasa co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Isaac Ruto.
