Vihiga senator George Khaniri has accused the county government of embezzling devolved funds meant for development.
He said the area governor Moses Akaranga should explain how shillings 12.3 billion allocated to the county by the National government have been used to cater for the residents.
“The billion shillings have been misappropriated and the governor should give details on how the money has been used to improve the lives of our people,” said Khaniri.
Khaniri said the county governments should utilize and stop misusing funds meant for development but instead focus on uplifting the living standard of Kenyans.
He was speaking at Chavavo friend’s church in Vihiga Sub County when he met local church leaders and women groups.
Khaniri said the residents were optimistic that the county government would bring development at the grass root level but has failed to meet their objective.
“We hoped the county government would improve the lives of our people but has failed to initiate projects that are intended to add value to the lives of our people,” said Khaniri.
At the same time, he criticized the jubilee government of doing little to fight poverty among Kenyans adding that the administration had impoverished Kenyans.
“We are going for elections and we want to send Jubilee government home because under their leadership corruption and nepotism has thrived,” said Khaniri.
He said the government has ruined the economy and most chosen leaders have gone on a looting spree while the common man suffers.
The area governor has however denied the allegations and said the senator is seeking political mileage and added that the county government has utilized the funds by initiating projects that are meant to improve their livelihoods of the people.
