National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has said that the Jubilee government has overpriced the development of roads and have used an excess amount of money to fund the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project, “The money used to renovate one road network can be used on three roads,” said Raila Odinga. While speaking to delegates from West Pokot and Baringo at Orange house, he said the previous government, the coalition government, formulated the SGR plan. “When we finished our term in the coalition government, we had already handed over the contract, but Jubilee cancelled the contract and readvertised,” he said, “They gave the contract to the same contractor but at a higher price.” He said what matters isn’t what has been set up, but how the money has been used.
The NASA leader added that their performance in the education sector is also wanting. He said that the government hasn’t done enough in the time they’ve been in power. “The government has said that starting next year January, they’ll subsidize secondary education. They’ve been in power for four and a half years and they haven’t sorted this out, meaning they can’t even if they’re given more time,” said Odinga. He further cited that in 2002, the NARC government promised to initiate free primary education and they were able to keep the promise, although some leaders scoffed at the idea.
