Nandi residents have been told to maintain peace and uphold national cohesion ahead of the August general elections. Nandi Central Deputy County Commissioner George Matundura appealed to Nandi residents to ensure they live in peace and harmony with other tribes citing that every tribe in Kenya has the freedom to live anywhere they wish. He said this in Kapsabet town during the peace walk event for 2017 which aims to sensitize people about the importance of peace.
Furthermore, he urged them to shun dirty politics and to avoid divisions arising from political differences, saying that everyone has a right to support the party he or she wants. He reminded the youth that they shouldn’t be used by politicians to cause chaos or disrupt political meetings, and he urged them to avoid leaders who harbour such intentions. He instructed all political leaders in the County to conduct mature politics and embrace tolerance.
The exercise which kicked off today in Nandi Central sub-county will move to other sub-counties on Saturday, with a message of peace ahead of the August general elections.
