A 45-year-old man stabbed and seriously injured three family members just because he didn’t get his portion of ugali at Kiwanja Ndege village in Lugari location, Lugari sub county.
Speaking to the press from her hospital bed at Lumakanda sub county hospital Mrs Beatrice Kanaya narrated how her husband Jotham Madunda Ahada, who never provides for his family, became wild after he returned home on Thursday evening and failed to get his favourite meal.
According to Kanaya, the family had spent the day working on the farm, and they only took a cup of porridge each at about 4pm, which acted as both lunch and supper because they had no food left in the house. However, when the husband who had gone roaming around the village returned, he forcefully asked for ugali and a quarrel ensued.
“This man never provides for the family, whenever he gets little money it’s used in drinking dens, I have to work on other residents’ farms for us to get something to put on the table and now that I was working on our farm I couldn’t manage to get cash to buy food,” narrated the mother of five, “But he returned and demanded to be given food and that is where the problem began.”
He said the two picked up a fight before the husband took a knife and stabbed her five times on the chest, seriously injuring her. He also stabbed her aunt who had visited them on the hand when she tried to intervene adding that her elder son was not spared either as he also
got injured in the commotion as he tried to snatch the knife from the father.
The injured were rescued by neighbours and rushed to Lumakanda sub county hospital. Officer commanding Lumakanda police station William Oyugi has appealed to the family to report the incident for legal action to be taken against the suspect who disappeared after the act. According to him, the incident had not been reported by the time of going on air.
”We will launch a manhunt for him immediately the family records a statement and is likely to be charged with assault,” said Oyugi.
