President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have been cleared by IEBC to run in the August 8th general elections. The two presented their documents before IEBC officials at KICC, after making several stopovers in Nairobi. After being cleared, President Uhuru Kenyatta said that Jubilee stands for peace, unity, progress for all Kenyans, “With that in mind, we are determined to ensure that we conduct our elections peacefully, that we ensure during this campaign period, we uphold the dignity of the Kenyan nation.”
He said that they will campaign with the full knowledge that it’s the people of Kenya who have a right to elect their leaders, “We shall respect their wishes and appeal to the people of Kenya to give us as Jubilee another opportunity to be able to continue with the work we have started,” he said. President Kenyatta said that he looks forward to peaceful campaigns, “There is a Kenya before the elections, there will be a Kenya after the election,” he said.
The presidential race is now clearly laid out after NASA Presidential candidate and ODM leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka were cleared by IEBC officials on Sunday. Independent candidates have been cleared too, but it’s clear that the final lap of the presidential race will be dominated by the Jubilee and NASA aspirants.
