The Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in Trans Nzoia County has received documents from aspirants from various political parties which were verified before being declared to contest for various seats in the County. It was a beehive of activities as several candidates trooped the Kitale Museum together with their supporters, and several were cleared to vie.
The first one to present his papers for verification was the Senatorial independent candidate and Trans Nzoia County speaker David Sifuna Kinisu who was cleared to vie after some delays.
Speaker Kinisu was followed by the nominated Senator on a Ford Kenya ticket Catherine Mukite who presented her papers together with the necessary documents needed by the commission and she was also cleared.
John Lewis Ndombi, who was the County Executive Committee member for Health, was also declared fit to vie as an independent candidate.
The Amani National Congress aspirant Kipruto Arap Kirwa also presented his documents to the IEBC and he was cleared to vie for the Senatorial position.
All the aspirants promised to hold their campaigns peacefully and urged other leaders to do the same. They appealed to the youth to avoid being used wrongly by politicians who are out to divide them in order to gain political mileage.
“We are going to compete favourably with others. We call upon our opponents to desist from using the youth to gain political mileage,” said nominated Senator Mukite.
The IEBC Trans Nzoia County Elections Manager Katita Melita explained how several aspirants lacked some documents necessary for declaration forcing them to send them away for the same in order to declare them as aspirants.
He said as a commission, they have ensured that every aspirant is armed with the necessary documents before being declared as aspirants.
