Police officers in Endebess constituency in Trans Nzoia County have launched investigations concerning the clashes that took place yesterday between supporters of area MP Dr Robert Pukose and his rival Alwin Sasia. Last week the High Court in Nairobi had ordered the repeat of Jubilee nominations in the area following a successful petition lodged by Alwin Sasia who disputed Pukose’s victory.
Sasia had among the petitions, pleaded with the court not to allow the incumbent to contest as a Jubilee aspirant, saying the last nominations were marred by violence, voter bribery, and voter malpractices
The rival supporters clashed in Endebess, and five were seriously injured. The two politicians shifted blame towards each other, and MP Robert Pukose said his life is in danger after his car was hit and destroyed by his rival’s supporters, adding that he plans to present a motion in Parliament. Sasia has urged his supporters to remain calm as the next phase of the case is being heard. He condemned the incident after his three cars were vandalized.
Following the incident, Endebess Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina has condemned the violence saying the culprits will face stern action after the investigations, “We can’t continue behaving this way. The security of the area is deteriorating due to the acts of politicians,” said Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina.
He said the two politicians have propagated insecurity in the area by not taming their supporters who caused serious property destruction. Other leaders, including Paul Moiben, have condemned the incident and hit out at security organs for failing to secure property that was destroyed. They urged residents not to vote for leaders who propagate hate and disunity. “We call upon residents in the area to vote out leaders who are not peace-loving,” said Moiben
