Bungoma County residents have been urged to maintain peace this campaigning period and distant themselves from politics of hatred. Speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Kanduyi in Masinde Muliro Stadium, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka said that politics of hatred, incitement is outdated and urged politicians to use seductive language to woo voters during the campaign.
“As politicians let us use good language to seduce voters and do away with incitement, hate speech and language full of insults, bear in mind that such language is outdated, therefore I urge you voters to avoid working with such politicians,” said Lusaka.
He also wanted residents not to sell their food produce at a low price after harvesting as one way of curbing food security in the country.
“Don’t rush to sell your maize at a cheaper price after harvesting, remember the maize you will be selling at that low price is the same maize that will be brought back to you at an expensive price. Therefore, let us try to keep our food produce well for it will help us fight hunger in our country,” added Lusaka
Bungoma Deputy Governor Hillary Chongwony told residents to vote for leaders according to their development record but not to look at political parties so as to get further development.
“As we are preparing for the general election, don’t vote for a person according to his or her political party but cast your vote as you look on development track of an individual because this will help you get more development in the next five years,” stated Chongwony.
Bungoma County Commissioner, Joshua Chepchieng assured residents of their peace during this period and after the election.
He said that his administration is set to deal with all sorts of queer character that might lead to insecurity.
“As the country is set for campaigns in preparation to the general election residents should not be scared about their security, this has been catered for fully and whoever that will be found with characters that cause insecurity will be dealt with properly,” said Chepchieng
He also warned politicians that will use hate speech and incitement language that they will be caught and arraigned in court and he also emphasized that whoever will be found causing chaos will be dealt with according to the law.
“For politicians who are fond of using hate speech, insults and incitement know that the law is clear and you will face it without sympathy,” he reiterated.
Chepchieng informed all politicians to present their campaign schedule to security department to avoid conflicts among themselves during rallies.
“I would like to urge all politicians to avail your schedule to security agents on how you will be campaigning throughout the county, we would like to have them so as to enable you to avoid incidences where more than one politician find themselves holding rallies in one place something that might lead to conflicts,” he expressed.
