Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka and his gubernatorial opponent and Ford Kenya aspirant Wycliffe Wangamati have been fined by IEBC following the altercation between their supporters in Bungoma town. The two leaders have been given 24 hours to pay Kshs 1 million, failure to which they’ll be disqualified to vie in the general elections.
They had appeared before the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC) Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee yesterday, and the Bungoma Governor presented a complaint against Wangamati. The two faced allegations that they had fuelled chaos in Bungoma after the Governor’s clearance.
After the IEBC read out its judgement on the matter, Governor Lusaka did not contest the decision, “I will comply and pay the fine as demanded by IEBC. The most important thing now is my re-election,” he said.
Lawyer Wangila Edward, who was speaking on behalf of Wangamati said that he will not accept the verdict since his client did not instigate any chaos as alleged. “We will file an appeal at the high court to contest this judgement,” he said.
