Residents of Webuye West in Bungoma County and Navakholo in Kakamega County, who used the Kuywa bridge that collapsed are a happy lot after confirmation that the reconstruction of the bridge is nearing completion. Talking to West Media at the reconstruction site, residents led by Sitikho MCA aspirant Eric Soita applauded the government’s haste in the project given that the bridge helped even students to access schools between the neighboring constituencies.

“This bridge is very vital to both residents of Webuye West constituency and Navakholo constituency in terms of business and education because we have our children who cross over to Makhukhuni primary and secondary school as its closer compared to other schools,” said Eric Soita.

He outlined that businesses were affected because the bridge was the meeting point for traders, especially those from Webuye and Kakamega, adding that even markets couldn’t be easily accessed, “When the bridge collapsed, businesses were affected and traders couldn’t get to the markets. Bussiness people from Webuye and Navakholo will once again benefit and the sector will be revived once the bridge is fully reconstructed,” said Soita. He urged the contractor to ensure all gaping holes are done away with so that the bridge can be used without any hazards.

The Sikuvale village elder urged the youth to shun the vice of stealing bolts and the metals, saying the bridge will be weak, “We all know the government has used a lot of money to reconstruct this bridge,” he said.
