ODM officials in Bungoma have assured supporters across Bungoma County that all their candidates will be in the election race come August 8th after rumours emerged that the gubernatorial contest will be between incumbent Governor Ken Lusaka and Ford Kenya aspirant Wycliffe Wangamati.
While addressing the press in Webuye after a strategy meeting attended by party candidates in the County and officials led by Deputy Party leader and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, the party through Bungoma chairman Ali Majani Mutoka said none of the candidates will step down, given that it has candidates in all areas in the County. “None of our candidates will step down, and we have candidates in every Ward. Our Senatorial candidate is Boniface Nyongesa, the Gubernatorial candidate is Alfred Khang’ati, the Woman Representative candidate is Sween Khayanga and we have candidates in all constituencies and also in all forty-five Wards,” said Mutoka, adding that ODM is the party to beat in Bungoma.
He said that NASA leaders should let the people decide when it comes to County, Constituency and Ward seats, adding that any underrating within the coalition will only help Jubilee. “We must work as a team, and we won’t allow any party to feel bigger than the others so that we can secure many seats,” he said, “Victory for either ODM, Ford Kenya, ANC or Wiper is a victory for NASA.”
On his part, Khalaba Ward MCA Majimbo Okumu warned Ford Kenya to brace for a serious tussle in the general elections, “Ford Kenya should brace themselves for a serious battle,” he said, “Our Deputy party leader has maintained that our Senatorial candidate is Boniface Nyongesa and he won’t step down for Moses Wetangula because he also has a constitutional right to vie. They should prepare themselves because we’re going to campaign seriously like never before.”
