KANU leaders from West Pokot County have said Jubilee competitors and government officers in the area have a plot to rig the general elections. They alleged the administration officers are being used by opponents to do campaigns and are being compromised in the process.
Led by West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo who is a gubernatorial aspirant in West Pokot, they said they won’t accept election malpractices. He was accompanied by former Cabinet Minister and Senatorial aspirant Samuel Poghisio.
They condemned the recent report that cited West Pokot and Turkana Counties as violence hotspots, saying it’s part of a plot to bring more police officers to the region, in a move which is set to culminate to the rigging of votes.
Furthermore, he called for peace ahead of the coming elections to shun violence in the area.
Mr. Poghisio called for respect among political parties in the County, adding that they need transparency in the forthcoming polls, “The elections should be free and fair. If I get zero votes and my competitor gets 100 let it be that way,” he said.
He said their opponents intend to use the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officers in the County to steal votes.
