Deputy President William Ruto has said he will throw his weight behind a Luhya leadership if the community rallies behind him in 2022. Speaking during a two-day tour of the region to drum up support for Jubilee party, Deputy President Ruto told Western Kenya residents to be wary of NASA presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga saying the former prime minister may not pass over the mantle to one of their own in case he clinches power.
“Being your neighbour, it would be easier for me to pass over the torch, unlike Raila whose Bondo home is miles away. We do know how long it would take for him to give out a pass,” said the DP Ruto.
He urged locals to get ready to cast their ballots in favour of the Jubilee government come August 8 to give President Uhuru Kenyatta the chance to complete the Jubilee initiated projects.
“I came so that we can discuss and agree on how we shall walk together and form the next government,” he said.
DP Ruto chided NASA leader Raila Odinga, accusing him of targeting the IEBC, courts, police and the army barely two weeks into the elections.
He argued that attacks aimed at the above mentioned agencies show the opposition leader was shaken after sensing defeat to President Uhuru.
According to him, Raila Odinga and the Opposition stand no chance of winning the elections. Two main pollsters have contradicted each other over who between Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta is likely to win the coming elections.
However, Ipsos Synovate and Infotrak agree on the fact there could be no clear winner in the first round if elections were to be held today.
But, the Deputy President appeared to pour cold water on the poll ratings saying there was no way Raila could win against Uhuru.
“Those who lack trust in our institutions and are busy writing complaints to the Western administrations about us have no capacity to lead Kenya, our country is not a colony of any other country.”
He said IEBC, the police and the army must be given the space to do their work and guarantee Kenyans a proper environment to cast their votes on the penultimate day without any problem.
He said Jubilee government has earmarked billions of shillings for the construction of at least 300 kilometres of roads in Kakamega County alone. Some of the roads are Sigalagala- Butere, Lurambi-Navakholo-Musikoma and Indangalasia–Nambacha.
The government, he noted has released another Kshs 800 million to equip both Kakamega General Hospital and Malava Sub County hospital and another Kshs 250 million is for setting up Kongoni Technical Institute and buying of learning equipment.
During the tour, DP Ruto addressed a series of rallies in Kakamega, Vihiga and Busia Counties.
