NASA supporters in West Pokot County staged a peaceful demonstration dismissing claims of Jubilee’s influence in the County, after the visit of Deputy President William Ruto in the County.
The youths, who moved along the streets of Kapenguria town carrying placards and twigs, sang songs in support of presidential candidate Raila Odinga citing that West Pokot was not a Jubilee zone.
Led by West Pokot NASA official Mr. Richard Todosia, they faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta and his administration for economic sabotage in the region by allowing security operations in Baringo and Laikipia Counties. They said the County has been marginalized for a long period of time and accused Jubilee of giving false promises.
“We need to vote for Raila Odinga, the father of democracy and devolution,” noted Todosia. He criticized the government for allowing the police officers to use excessive force and brutality in the region and called on the government to compensate herders who had lost livestock.
NASA Youth leader in the County Mr. Erick Changorok faulted the County leaders led by Governor John Lonyangapuo for working with Jubilee leaders who are not straight forward.
“We voted for our Governor because we trusted him but now he has messed up and is campaigning with thieves,” said Changarok.
He urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to respect the courts and lauded the Supreme Court’s verdict “NASA won with a big margin and we were surprised that Jubilee got so many votes. We laud the Supreme Court for nullifying the results.”
He said that Deputy President William Ruto has visited the County more than thirty times and hasn’t helped residents.
