Matete Deputy County Commissioner Mr. George Omollo has assured residents of Lwandeti location enhanced security following a spate of criminal activities. Addressing a security baraza at Sango village in Mabuye sub location, Omollo expressed concern over increasing crime, ranging from petty theft to robbery and murder in the area.
“I want to sternly warn locals against defying the rule of law by involving themselves in criminal activity,” cautioned Omollo, revealing he had instructed security organs to increase night and day patrols.
He encouraged them to instead closely cooperate and work with security agencies as well as community policing and peace committees and Nyumba Kumi members.
“Let us collectively control crime in our area by giving vital security information to nearby police offices and officer, chiefs and village elders,” appealed Omollo.
On Wednesday last week, the area hit news headlines following the lynching of
one man suspected of being a member of a criminal gang that has been stealing livestock.
The DCC assured the public security officers would eventually arrest, and if necessary, jail individuals mentioned by the deceased. He, however, pleaded with the locals against taking the law into their hands.
Omollo praised the Judiciary for sending to jail a hard core robber connected with major highway robbery activities at Chimoi along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.
The unnamed criminal was sentenced to 99 years in jail, according to Omollo. “The historic sentence would greatly reduce highway robbery activity, especially of long distance vehicles along the highway,” he observed.
